When you are out at a Skate Spot, don't be that guy:
- Pay attention — Colliding into someone hurts, so always make sure the path your skating is clear. If you do slam into someone just make sure you are both ok and apologize. No need to ruin a good skate day over a silly accident afterall.
- Practice on your own time and in your own space — It is not a great idea to try out a new trick in a busy area since you might lose control of your board. Only attempt obstacles you Know what you can handle and only attempt obstacles you can handle safely. Whenever possible, wait until the equipment is not being used.
- Damage Control — However, accidents to happen so be sure to warn others if your board is flying out of control. Don't be afraid to shout heads up really loud, otherwise, someone could get hurt...or just very angry at you.
- Respect the space of others — Stand far enough away from coping so you will be out of the way. When someone is skating, try to give them enough space to feel comfortable. Most important – never sit or stand in an place where people are skating.
- Skate, Skate, Pass — This means waiting your turn to skate a ramp and when it is your turn, please do not hog the ramp. Nothing is more obnoxious than that guy who pumps back and forth for what seems like an eternity. Actually there is something more obnoxious – cutting someone off who has been waiting.
- Give Props — This means cheering for your peers when they finally land that trick they have been working on. Yell out, tap your board on rail, whistle, or just let them know what they did was nice! It is just a nice thing to do to keep the atmosphere friendly. And besides, you know you love it when people taps their board on the ramp for you!
- Follow Local Rules — Anywhere you go will have its own special rules. Sometime you will have to wear a helmet. Likewise, you may be skating a spot one time when the owner or a security guard asks you to leave. It is not a big deal so do not make a big deal out of it. Tell them it is not a problem and then just leave the spot. Always remember: cops can ticket skaters for trespassing!
